Types of Safari

here are two types of safaris in the wild Ranthambore National Park that allow you to explore the park. Gypsy and Canter are there on which you can explore the area.

GYPSY SAFARI

safari
  • Gypsies are 4-seater open vehicles that provide an immersive way to explore the wilderness of Ranthambore. Being open from all sides, they offer excellent visibility and allow visitors to experience the park’s rich flora and fauna up close. Their compact size enables them to navigate narrow jungle trails with ease, making them a popular choice among adventure lovers seeking a more thrilling safari experience.
  • A total of 88 gypsies are permitted inside the park per safari shift—88 in the morning and 88 in the evening. Out of these, 58 gypsies are available for advance booking, while 20 are reserved for Tatkal bookings. Among the Tatkal quota, 5 gypsies are allotted for special categories and 5 for full-day or half-day safaris.
  • Each gypsy accommodates 6 passengers, along with separate seats for the guide and driver. Bookings are generally made on a sharing basis. For example, if your group has 4 people, only 4 seats will be reserved for you, and the remaining 2 seats may be allotted to other visitors. However, if you prefer exclusive use of the vehicle, you can book the entire gypsy by paying the full fare.
  • Since gypsies fill up quickly, it is strongly recommended to make your Ranthambore online safari booking in advance to secure your preferred date and avoid last-minute inconvenience.
    • Gypsy safaris offer an open, close-to-nature experience, allowing visitors to navigate narrow jungle trails and enjoy better wildlife visibility.

    • A fixed number of gypsies are allowed per shift—88 in the morning and 88 in the evening—with advance and Tatkal booking quotas.

    • Gypsies operate on a sharing basis, but visitors can book the entire vehicle by paying the full fare; advance booking is recommended due to high demand.

 Canter Safari

  • Canters are also 4-wheeler vehicles, but unlike gypsies, they are open buses designed to carry larger groups. These safaris take you deep into the forest, offering a wide and elevated view of the park’s diverse flora and fauna. Thanks to their height, Canters provide good visibility of wildlife even from a distance, making them a practical and budget-friendly option for big groups. Canters are permitted in all safari zones except Zones 7 and 8.

  • A total of 52 Canters are allowed inside Ranthambore National Park during each shift—52 in the morning and 52 in the evening.

  • Each canter accommodates 20 passengers, along with separate seats for the guide and driver. The guide and driver sit in the front, while the 20 visitors sit in the back. Canter safaris operate on a sharing basis, making them ideal for groups who prefer to travel together.
